This is Cormara Undag’s second year teaching grade 8 Math at the Davis Leadership Academy, a public charter school in Dorchester. She started her academic career as a tutor for a middle school in South Boston, which ultimately became her first school as a teacher. The tutoring was through various programs at UMass Boston – the Project Reach, Urban Scholars Program and Gear Up. At UMass Boston and Suffolk University, she had the fulfilling opportunity to teach at the Veterans Upward Bound, until the programs unfortunately lost their funding. Though Cormara’s college background is in Nursing, she enjoys teaching math, and feels very grateful to have served the Boston community in different age groups and diverse populations. She has been in the academe for almost 20 years. She recognizes the fact that she does not have the Math pedagogy of her peers. With this, she is continually seeking chances, if time permits, to improve her ability. Cormara has participated in a few PDs and trainings, locally and nationally, and feels very fortunate to be part of the MIT program.
